Eucharistic Sacred Heart
Commissioned by a Classical academic institution, George and Polly's second major treatment of the Sacred Heart motif highlights the priestly character of Christ's love for souls. The crown of thorns and marks of the Passion recall the ultimate expression of his self-sacrifice in history, while the liturgical vestments, host, chalice, and words of Consecration represent the sacramental context in which the grace of that sacrifice is experienced today. Though Jesus' physical heart is concealed behind the wafer, the eyes of faith perceive the light of his loving presence shining through.
